Drug Action Week 2008 is a week of activities held nationally to raise awareness
about alcohol and other drugs (AOD) issues in Australia and is an initiative
of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA). It
will be held from 22 – 28 June 2008, with the theme ‘Alcohol is a Drug

Youth Coalition Monthly Seminar: The Ethics Of Youth Work: A workshop using alcohol
and other drugs case studies
The Ethics of Youth Work Project, Youth Coalition of the ACT
Provides an opportunity for youth workers to discuss the ethics of youth work
using AOD case studies. Facilitated by Dr Dean Cocking, an ethicist formerly
with Charles Sturt University and the Australian National University.
The workshop will use familiar examples and aims to develop both better
practice-based strategies and some understanding of the significant values
or reasons that inform these strategies and working with young people
more generally.

ACT Drug Action Week 2008 Launch
ACT AOD Sector Project, Youth Coalition of the ACT
Ms Agnes Shea, Ngunnawal Elder will be opening Drug Action Week in the
ACT and Ms Katy Gallagher, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister for Health
will be
officially launching DAW in the ACT. Additionally, Mr David Batts, Australian
Institute for Health and Welfare will be presenting some key findings
from the 2007 National Drug Strategy Household Survey. RSVP essential.
ACT Alcohol and Other Drug Services will have information stalls and
a light lunch will be provided.

First Annual ACT Alcohol and Other Drugs Sector Conference
Alcohol: Past, Present and Future
ACT AOD Sector Project, Youth Coalition of the ACT
The conference will focus on alcohol and aims to facilitate access
to the latest evidence relating to best practice and seeks to strengthen
the capacity, skills
and knowledge base of participants. Four participatory sessions will examine
current and past alcohol policy, cultural issues and evidence-based interventions.
This will provide a context for participants to better understand and engage
with issues related to alcohol nationally and locally. Registration essential.
